lake ainsworth (tea tree lake), lennox head

This has to be one of Mamma’s favourite spots. Lake Ainsworth, or Tea Tree Lake as it’s also known, is a huge fresh water lagoon infused with tea tree tannins from the surrounding trees. It is said to have healing properties for the skin and hair and helps with infections and inflammation - Mamma thinks it is also just good for the soul.

It is so calm and relaxing so you MUST get in and enjoy the cool (but not too cold!) water. There is sand under foot once you get past the tree roots so its lovely and soft. Obviously be careful with the kids and keep them at arms length - or better yet, in your arms, and always test the depth before them - you can’t see the bottom because of the tannins. You will see people enjoying kayaks and paddle boards and even rope swings. Oh and say hi to the ducks as they swim by - this place is truly magical.

Mamma’s special mention: 7 Mile Beach is literally just over the road - grab a bite and coffee from the Lennox Head Surf Club kiosk or head further up the road to Williams Street Kitchen and Bar.
